The MP353 converts DisplayPort to DVI-D at up to 1080P@60Hz. The DVI-D output side is what defines it: DVI-D is the digital-only variant of DVI, and it is the input fitted to a very large installed base of professional and office monitors that are still perfectly serviceable displays.

The pairing arises constantly when a workstation or desktop PC is replaced. The new machine has DisplayPort outputs on its graphics card; the monitors on the desk have DVI inputs and no reason to be thrown away.
