Who pays for HDMI certification — the factory or the brand?

Certification is applied per model by whoever owns the model; in OEM deals this must be written into the contract, not assumed.

Answer: the party that owns the model applies for its certification — so in a private-label deal, which side becomes the applicant (and pays for the ATC test) has to be agreed in writing.

  • Brand as applicant — the brand holds the certificate; changing factories does not require re-certification.
  • Factory as applicant — the factory holds it; if you switch suppliers, you may have to start again.
  • Either way, ask for the test report for the specific model, and check whose name is on it.

Cost figures vary by model and test scope — ask for a quote rather than a rule of thumb.
