How is cable bend life tested?

A bend test fixes an angle, a load and a cycle count — without all three stated, a "bend life" number means nothing.

Answer: a bend-life claim is only meaningful with three parameters — bend angle, applied load, and where the bend is applied.

  • Angle — ±60° and ±180° are different tests.
  • Load — a cable bent with a weight on it fails sooner.
  • Location — at the connector (the real failure point) or mid-cable.

For a specification, ask for all three plus the pass criterion (continuity? data rate maintained?). A number quoted alone is marketing.

How should a cable bend-life claim be evaluated?

Only with bend angle, applied load and bend location stated, plus a pass criterion.
